Crown Jewels: 10 cent Coin Ring by Lex Pott
Dutch designer Lex Pott reshaped and repurposed the coin as an everyday object in order to create an entirely different item. The aim is to create a collection of jewelry linked to the tradition of crown jewels that now become accessible to everyone.
In the early days coins used to represent the real value of the material. But nowadays the value of a coin is based on agreements. This project shows how function and value are transformed as coins are reduced to an outline, showing their new value as being jewelry. Herewith he opens the discussion on value of material.
We have Crown Jewel: 20 cent coin ring too, which has another lovely textured surface.
Nordic Gold
Euro cent coins are made from Nordic Gold, which is a gold-coloured copper alloy. This alloy is difficult to melt and used exclusively for coins! It is non-allergenic and resistant to tarnishing.
